5/12 Sunday
We're up early and having a great breakfast again for a change. Beacon, eggs, etc.
We did two Panorama (Greyline) Tours today with a nap in between. Tour One was Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Castel S. Angelo, and St Peter's. Our guide was Ray. A character and a good guide. We were blessed by the Pope at noon. We were dropped off at our hotel and we took a nap before being picked up for the afternoon tour. The afternoon tour was Ancient Rome at Piazza Venezia, The Capitol Square, Palatine and Roman Forum ruins, the Colosseum and Circus Maximus then Basilica of St Paul's outside the walls with its alabaster windows. It was a good idea to do the tours because we never would have been able to see all we did on our own.
After another rest we have gone up the block to a pizza restaurant called "L'Osteria di Cicerone" [via Cicerone 22A/26 Ph 06.3208.468] I've ordered a salad of some kind (peparonata) and meat of some kind (Filetto al pepe verde). It will be a surprise. Everyone here smokes. And it's amazing the amount of salt people put on their food! I mean it's A LOT. The salad is cheese, lettuce, (soft) green and red pepper slices, green and black olives. Elaine's is tomatoes, chickery greens, mozzarella cheese. Both taste real good. She's having cheese and spinach ravioli with tomato sauce. Mine is beef on toast with a cream sauce, roasted potato pieces, and capers. Very nice flavors. Ice cream and strawberries for both of us. Not as good as last night's.
