Up early and breakfasted. Here bacon has bones!! We had Ray again for our guide. On the bus we gave a few couples our recommendation of last night's restaurant. We toured [tour #4] the Vatican Museums, Rooms of Raphael's frescoes, and THE SISTINE CHAPEL. It was everything I'd imagined. We cut out early in St Peter's square and went back into St Peter's after mailing a couple of postcards from the Vatican Post Office to Barb and ourselves. We wandered around inside, checked out the elaborately carved confessionals, (almost makes ya wanna go in) went in the treasures area. Very tiring walking so slowly. We sat at the exit for 20 minutes or so then I went up to the top of the dome. (It was a MEAN climb) The view was great and the climb not really that tough. I got a book of St Peter's at the book store up there. The trip down was much easier. Elaine still at the exit when I got back. She said I was gone an hour.
We went looking for two restaurants Elaine had written down but we were too late. Finally we found a grocery store and got sandwich makings for lunch. Fresh sliced salami and cheese, cokes, cookies, and chicken-flavored potato chips. Plus Q-tips- try miming that! We went to our hotel and had a picnic on our bed. Slept a while then watched Anna Kournikova live at the Italian Open actually win a match. A very nice conclusion to another great day in Rome. Had lots of sleep.
