From my daily journal: Votaire, France to Sion, Switzerland

4/22/02 Monday-continued

So we're driving along the north side of Lake Geneva and it's looking beautiful. We had the lake on our left and the vineyards on our right going up the sides of the mountains. Then we had to go through the pass to get to the other side toward Italy.
We didn't have a place to stop arranged ahead of time, we just drove until it felt right. We ended up stopping at Sion, Switzerland about 6:00 pm and checked into the Hotel du Rhone Best Western. The view from our room. We're overlooked by a 2000 year old church and a ruined castle. We had ate at the Hotel du Rhone restaurant. We decided on the fondue and had a choice of meats: Ostrich, beef, chicken or colt-pick three. The waitress didn't speak English so we figured out these meats by making animal sounds. She was fun. We didn't want wine tonight so I made like rain with my fingers to get her to understand plain water. It cracked the waitress up. She had to go tell the bartender. Elaine was too tired and went upstairs. Naturally I had dessert. Check out the meal.
