From my daily journal: Venuce, Italy to Ravenna, Italy

4/28/02 Sunday

Had a bad night's sleep. A couple of drunks were outside in the square talking loudly. I taped them. Wanted to throw a glass bottle at them but resisted. The tables downstairs are all full so we're having breakfast in our room. Spilled hot chocolate on my pants. Guess I was ready to change anyway. We checked out and rode the #1 to the parking area. We were never checked for a ticket on any boat at any time. We checked out of the garage. We never really left the four block area of Venice near our hotel. I don't think we got the true feel of the place. I'm guessing that it would have been good to walk through the rest of the city. The hotel was in a great location but Elaine says she wouldn't stay there again. I would but I'd ask for a room on the inner side, not facing the eating area.
We accidentally got onto the A4 again and had to get off at Doro then find our way south on 309.
We've stopped for lunch at Cappello Ristorante half way to Ravenna. I'm trying the spaghetti alla carbonara again with a pizza parmigiana-pomodoro, mozzarella, melanzane ai ferri, parmigiano. (Turned out to be eggplant) Elaine's having gnocchi al gorgozda and pizza asparagi. And cokes. Elaine gnocchi was her best EVER. And she loved the bread too. Pizza crust was very thin. The owner posed with Elaine in front of the very interesting fused glass windows by our table.
The toilet seat in the woman's room spun around to be cleaned! Weird.
The car is doing great. Very zippy, 6 forward speed gears and I actually got into 6th gear on the Autostrata a couple of times.
We got to Ravenna and checked into the Jolly Hotel. A great hotel. Very advanced, nice accommodations, We walked to the churches and museum but they's closed. Lots of cool shops. Got some ice cream and sat in the lobby doing postcards. Had an Italian beer. Elaine helped with the postcards.
