From my daily journal: Venice, Italy Day 2
4/26/02 Friday
Got a 2 day pass for the waterbusses and took #5 to Morano. We were overwhelmed by the number of shops. We found one we liked, Oball,
and Elaine picked out necklaces and earrings. Some picture frames. They were very nice. Now we are at a restaurant, Trattoria Valmarana, that Fabiana, the clerk,
recommended for lunch while they pack it up for us. I'm having spaghetti alla carbonatta, which is "in the coal-dealer style". It's spaghetti with creamy sauce and bacon pieces. An egg is broken over the hot paste which then partially cooks it. Good. Elaine's having a fish soup that has scallops, whole crayfish and red sauce. I had to go lay down on a grassy area while Elaine went shopping. I'm feeling pretty lousy with this chest cold. She came back just as I'd sat up. She'd gotten some small goblets. We picked up our first purchases and boated back to the hotel. I had to lay with damp cloth on my eyes. Have a headache. Elaine got me some cold medicine.
It's about 9:00 pm and we're out in the courtyard having supper at Aciugheta. Elaine's trying fish soup again and I'm having spaghetti Boulanasie-meat sauce. OK but ... Elaine got some ginger/chocolate at the candy store and went for a walk. I'm in bed.
